Oneballjay began as a surf wax experiment between 1982 and 1983 after Jay Rota and Matt Cummins met Mike Olson and Peter Saari of the GNU Snowboards. During the summer, skateboarding was the most common activity, but surfing turned out to be a fresh alternative. So the couple started experimenting with surf waxes, which led the way to snowboarding.

At present, Oneballjay has its own factory in Belfair, Washington, and is sold around the world. The range has been expanded by other products, such as stompady.
