It was founded in 1973 when it was founded by Gordon and Rena Merchants and in the city of Gold Coaste in the southeast of Queensland. In the 1980s, Billabong shorts were available across Australia, during the 1990s the brand expanded to New Zealand, Japan, or South Africa. At the beginning of the new millennium Billabong is available in most countries of the world.
